But here is the concept about your idea to keep an ideal weight, the constant choice of food quality and quantity is totally up to your discretion. You must learn to make ideal food choices on a constant basis. If you eat in a haphazard fashion your metabolism will respond. Depending on the frequency and choice of food your metabolism might slow down, speed up or behave in a balanced fashion that can keep you at your ideal weight.

Here is the first secret - You must plan your snacks. Snacks help reduce hunger especially if they are balanced with sugar, protein, fat and fiber. For example an ideal snack would actually be peanut butter and jelly on whole wheat crackers. Another good choice would be to eat an orange instead of orange juice. As a matter of fact most natural fruits are good snacks because they give you insoluble fiber and this keeps you satisfied. Feeling satisfied, even if you only had a glass of water with lemon, is the main idea behind this secret. However, this one secret might take you out of your comfort zone, so get prepared to persist.

The 2nd secret is to plan to increase your knowledge about the properties of food. For instance some foods like fatty, sweet snacks actually slow your metabolism preventing your body from using the energy from the food as fuel for your metabolic processes, but instead store it as fat.

As you probably know, foods contain carbohydrates, proteins and fats in various proportions. Your body has its own code of how much of these chemicals it needs to keep you well, healthy and at your ideal weight. Our bodies consist of millions of cells. Cellular renewal is dependent on good nutrition. As your cells die they are replaced with new ones. The quality of new cell formation is directly linked to your diet, because to be regenerated properly cells need well balanced nutrition...

If you eat an excess of any of these chemicals no matter how good it is for you, some will be stored as fat. For example eating an overload of your favorite fruit because you know that it is good for you can cause you to gain excess pounds, because of the high carbohydrate content of the fruit. To gain benefit from this secret the only thing you have to do is focus on portion size until you determine what portion size helps you keep your ideal weight.

The 3rd secret is to plan on taking complete control of your nutrition, and consider the ingredients in the types of food you choose. With this tactic, you should not be coerced by every commercial food that would not be an ideal choice for keeping you healthy with your ideal weight. You have to be diligent with this. I wanted to make sundried tomato dip as an appetizer. I got this idea because someone gave me a box of Sundried Tomato dip Mix. My first thought was - how convenient this is going to be. Then I read the label expecting sundried tomatoes to be the first ingredient. Instead, the first ingredient was Corn Syrup Solids. As a matter of fact, the ingredients did not even mention tomatoes. It included dextrose, salt, spices, natural flavors and paprika extract. I determined that some of those ingredients although probably tasty, can hinder instead of help in keeping my ideal weight. This prompted me to get some natural sundried tomatoes. The first ingredient on the bottle label was sundried tomatoes... This came along with, 100% pure olive oil, garlic herb and spices. So you see, if you seek, with a little effort you will find ingredients that can help you keep your ideal weight at every meal, even your snacks.
