Important Health Resource: Why Pocessed Foods Are Bad

Processed Foods are virtually in any food you come across at your grocery store that's not in its raw and natural state. Any food that is pasteurized, dehydrated, frozen, canned or even cooked can be considered 'processed food'. So is it really good for us to be eating a good amount of our food like this? Let's examine a few of the facts about why processed foods are bad.

The main reason food manufactures process a large amount of the food we eat is to keep it free of dangerous bacteria so it can last longer. Sounds like a good thing, but considering almost all our food is processed, it becomes not good for our health. For survival, years ago people salted meats and canned preserves. However, today we still put jelly on toast and make sandwiches with processed for our kids when we have refrigerators that will keep our food fresh. Why you ask? The companies that process these foods care more about making a quick buck than their consumer's health, and so the processed foods you consume today are not nearly the same top quality food that our grandparents ate.

Here are just some of the reasons why processed foods are bad for your health:

In order to save money and increase production, businesses typically only use the most affordable and typically least wholesome a part of the natural product that is being processed. By way of example, apple juice concentrate consists of none of the fiber or antioxidants of the whole fruit. You're getting virtually pure fructose. And you have no thought what conditions the foods were grown in, how old they were just before being processed, or any other info you may typically desire to know about before you place something inside your mouth.

Processed foods tend to include much more sugar than fresh food. Consuming processed foods can bring about diabetes and obesity, amongst other issues. In addition to sugar content going up, vitamin and minerals go down. Process foods are designed to make fruits and vegetables stay fresh longer, but it can't prevent the loss of nutrients. The moment the inner flesh of a fruit or vegetable comes in contact with air, it starts losing valuable nutrients. Processing accelerates this loss, meaning your canned apples might have little, or even none of the nutrients which you would get from eating a fresh apple.

The packaging used in process foods and the toxins it creates is another reason why processed foods are bad for you. BPA, a frequent chemical employed in producing plastic, can get into processed foods from packaging. This dreadful little guy has been linked to cancer, fertility problems, decreased immune system function, and much more.

All of us know it is less complicated to grab a package of instant oatmeal and add water then taking the time to allow oats to cook. But, just think for a minute; is it worth the cost to your health? Maybe your health is more important than the time you will save grabbing a fruit cup in place of a fresh and juicy orange. And let's be truthful; is not the enjoyment we feel from consuming a home-cooked meal or fresh food worth the additional time we put into it? We devote such a considerable amount of time attempting to save time. We do not spend nearly enough time enjoying the blessings in life. It's time we began taking pride in the food we place into our bodies, as opposed to just shoving whatever's quick and easy into our mouths just to quiet our bellies. Trust me, your body will thank you for it.
