Delicious Vegetable Smoothie Recipes

Nothing beats a cold, refreshing smoothie to hydrate with after a long day or a rigorous workout. Fruit smoothies are yummy, but have you tried any of the vegetable smoothies for a change on those taste buds?

Most vegetables aren't known to have a natural sweet taste you're used to in smoothies, but added with the right ingredients, they can be just as sweet and taste just as great.

Try the following tasty recipes that will nourish the body and enrich the spirit. For those who are having trouble getting your younger ones to consume enough nutrients on a daily basis, these smoothies are kid-friendly as well, so give them a try!

These smoothies vary in different serving sizes, so if you are wanting to increase or decrease servings, feel free to adjust the ingredients wherever necessary.

Spiced Carrot Smoothie
1/2 cup apple juice
1 cup cooked, chopped carrots
1/4 cup applesauce
1/4 inch piece of gingerroot, peeled
1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
1/4 tsp salt, or to taste
1/8 tsp cayenne pepper, or to taste

Very yummy. The apple and carrot combination never fails. Combine apple juice, carrots, applesauce, gingerroot and cinnamon and blend from low to high until creamy smoothie. Optional: Season with salt and cayenne pepper to taste.

Popeye's Powercharger
1 cup of apple juice and
2 cups of spinach (chopped). Then add
1 medium sized banana (chopped) and
1 cup of carrots (chopped).

I haven't tried this one yet, but it sounds like a winner. Add ingredients one at a time, pulsing in between. Blend together, then add 4 ice cubes

Broccoli Blueberry Smoothie
1 cup of frozen blueberries
1/2 cup of steamed broccoli (chopped)
1 cup of 100 percent cranberry juice
1/2 cup of low-fat plain yogurt

I never would have thought broccoli and blueberry would provide a yummy taste, but surprisingly I love it! Combine the ingredients and blend. If you would like to add extra flavor as well as nutrition add strawberries or blackberries to your liking.

Cantaloupe Carrot Creamsicle Smoothie
2 cups diced lush, ripe cantaloupe
1 to 1 1/2 cups carrot or carrot-orange juice
2 tablespoons orange juice concentrate
1 cup low-fat vanilla frozen yogurt or nondairy frozen dessert

If you're into a creamy citrus flavor, this one is for you. Combine all ingredients in blender and blend until preferred texture. If needed, add more liquid to adjust consistency. Serve immediately and more apple juice to taste. Blend thoroughly until smooth.
